With Memorial Day being on Torie's birthday this year, it must have threw me for a loop when it came to her cake. She had told me that she wanted a flower pot cake. So, I had it my mind somewhat of an idea, but then the memory of my childhood memorial days must have stepped in to gear, and memories of lilacs and peonies being cut from the yard and being made into arrangements to be placed on the graves of those who have past on, Torie's cake turned into what you see here:
I felt like it definitely was not her or what she wanted, so this morning I baked a batch of cupcakes and with McKelle's help we put together a flower pot cupcake display. I told McKelle that since she would not be here for her birthday on June 7th, that she could have the "memorial day wreath" cake for her birthday! She willingly accepted it.

Those are some seriously cute cupcakes! I love them!!!
I love the cake, and the cupcakes are really darling! Today was my brother-in-law, Wil's birthday, too. You know... in our family Anna is the cake baker!
Thanks Alison and Nicole for commenting. I have to laugh about my memorial day / Torie cake encounter. If it wasn't what time it is tonight and I don't want to go out I would bring you both a piece of cake. It tastes good as well.
